The Egg and The Spoon

egg_low.jpg
I had a dream last year of eggs and spoons, I have no idea where it came from but I wanted to execute the design. I mentioned it a few times to a couple of friends of mine but ended up getting bored with the idea, as I often do. I came across the spoon a few months after the dream and thought I was inspired enough at the time to achieve the concept. I was mistaken and still uninterested with the idea. None-the-less it kept haunting me, every time I would think of doing something that’s outside of my normal creativity - it’s this thought that came to mind. So here it is, a completed idea that I can now put to rest.

The Carolina Panthers

panthers_23_resize.jpg
I shot the opening for the Panthers 2006 training camp yesterday for Link. While I’m not a sports fan of any kind, I have to admit, I love shooting it - any of it, football, basketball, skating, hockey, bicycles, kayaking, even golf. There’s an adrenalin rush that hits you when you’re trying to catch (almost by luck) that one perfect shot in an environment that you know you can’t replay.

Finding the Creativity

commercial_01_resize.jpg
There’s not a lot going on this week at work that I can post about. I’ve been spending most of my time in the studio working on a series called “Who do you look like” which basically boils down to locals that bear a resemblance to one celebrity or another. But I’m still coming across images that I can’t help but post in the process of putting photographs together for the new website. I took this shot in May while covering Freedom Weekend Aloft (gallery 1 & gallery 2) in Anderson. There are some assignments that require a little bit of staying power if you want to leave with something creative. This image satisfied that craving for the day.

And away we go...

04_resize.jpg
I’ve been diligently going through the process of putting my portfolio together (a process I should be doing daily) for a new website that’s being built. Anyway, I came across this image today; it’s another Link cover from 2005. Go here to see all Link covers.

Helen Ga.

I shot this picture of Helen Ga. while on assignment for Link. Its part of a travel story series we do; you can get a great feel of the place by checking out the slideshow. It’s a little town tucked away in the mountains about an hour west of the South Carolina state line that has this unique German feel to it.

Psycho Dave

DSC_0063.JPG
I photographed Psycho Dave for the July/August 2006 issue of Paddler Magazine. I had to drive to the middle on nowhere to find his house, a cabin 10 feet from the riverside. When I got there he was cutting trees down (big trees) and his wife and son were playing in the river. At one point Dave had to make a dashing rescue in his canoe for the baby bottle heading down river. We spent about an hour and a half talking and shooting

Looking on the bright side.

Sometimes an American flag coupled with a little sunset is all it takes. I grabbed this shot doing some 4th of July assignments for work.

Another Cover

linkcover.jpg
This image is going to be on the cover of this weeks Link. I shot it a few months ago at Paris Mountain State Park in Greenville. I felt bad for the kid because the water was super cold and he did this jump about eight times before I finally felt like I had the shot I needed. I kept saying, “now you have to hold your knees up high, make sure you look right at me and try to smile”. Side note: I was in a paddle boat in the middle of the lake shooting with a 70-200 2.8.

A Day in the Life...

IMG_3142.jpg
If it can happen to me, it's going to this year. I won't bore you with all the details of my life over the past 12 months but let's just say they have been less than ideal. To add misery to injury, I came home from work on Friday night only to discover a car stereo, $170 in cash and my laptop had been stolen. I grabbed this shot of the assigned officer pulling fingerprints from a door leading into my house. Today I rebulit my old desktop to hold me over until I can get a new laptop.

All Grown Up

22.jpg.jpg
It was easy when my daughter was a little girl to take hundreds of pictures of her but as she gets older it becomes harder and harder. I had been asking her for months to please set aside some time so we could update the picture frames in our house and I could never pin her down. Finally she agreed; this was the last images of a series that lasted only about 20 minutes and had to be shared with a friend of hers.

Downtown Greenville

gville_cityscape_curcio.jpg
This is the city I currently work in. It’s always interesting to see the curious looks you get when walking up the sidewalk on a bridge right before the dark of night sets in, with a camera, a tripod and a determination to get that shot you been seeing in your head for over a year but haven’t gotten around to actually producing in yet.

Willie Nelson

willie_nelson_curcio_02.jpg
What can I say about shooting a legend like Willie Nelson? I don’t own any of his CDs but I do enjoy watching him act. I was excited about the assignment and took a good friend of mine along for the ride. Willie has two sons who looked like they’re in their teens. They opened up for him and I must say; they impressed me as much as seeing him live did.
