Fall Fashion

katie_levans_01_resize.jpg
It’s that time again, fall fashion Link style. It looks like I’ll be spending 3 solid days doing studio work – which can be loads of fun and loads of stress. This image came out of one of today’s sessions. You can view more studio work here - Spring Fashion - T-Shirts

Eat More Chicken

400_ana_cow.jpg
Another Crazy “I’ll do anything once” today. This time Ana dressed up in the cow suit for Chick-Fil-A and stood outside an elementary school waiving at children and their parents at pick up time. I saw the clouds rolling in and this brick wall – so I jumped over it and ask her to put her hands and head up on it.

Garbage Boy

trashy_justin_resize.jpg
Work certainly has its ups and downs just like any other part of daily life. Link does a series called “I’ll do anything once” where one of the three reporters I work with will do anything from catching bees to acupuncture. My friend and fellow coworker Justin had the bright idea to become a garbage man for an hour and a half during the middle of the afternoon in August. In all fairness to Justin I’m going to have to publicly admit that while the heat, the smell and the fact that I had just eaten at Moe’s didn’t mix well for me – I did enjoy holding the rails and riding on the back for 10-feet stretches.

Old Drivers

old_drivers.jpg
I walked out from eating lunch today in downtown Greenville when I happened upon this scene. I didn’t want to be rude and just start shooting away so I decided to go stealth holding the camera at my side and hoping something came out. The person I was with said to me “don’t put that on your blog that would be mean”. Well, I think it’s mean not to – if you watch or listen to the news at all you’ll recall that old man last year, maybe two years ago, that ran his car into a crowded market in San Francisco. Another clear example here that drivers should not only be tested at 15-years-old but also 60-years-old – I’m half way there (OK a little more than half way but who's counting) and I would be happy to take that test again.

Jam Night

After shooting the vineyards yesterday I had to go to Hub-Bub’s showroom to shoot the first of their series called Jam Night. This particular shot is of a punk band called Atom Bomb Baby

The Vineyards

Some days are simply better than others – right? I spent my time at work today touring wineries in the Carolinas. Who knew?

Got Milk?

gotmilk.jpg
Sometimes things just don’t go as planned. I had this great idea (or at least I thought it was great at the time) to get E to drink out of the milk jug like it was an over-sized bottle. I put the nipple on it but it didn’t fit very well – so I had him just put it up to his mouth as if it did fit. But he found it more fun to try and drink out of the jug without the nipple being on it. This was the last shot out of about 30 or so and he finally got to the milk he so eagerly waited for. Surprise!

The Clarks

clark_120.jpg
A friend of mine eats toothpaste for breakfast, oh yea – and he got married last night. I try not to shoot too many weddings – just enough to supplement my income in support of my lifestyle. That would be about four or five a year – or I might end up having to eat toothpaste for breakfast.

Two Buildings

Downtown Greenville is host to a number of interesting facades – this is part of the city courthouse and The Westin Poinsett Hotel.

Rescue Me

I was working on a cover today for Link when I spotted this opportunity. Nothing says the best part of waking up - like some Folgers in a fire truck. Here are some more fire related shots of mine.

Frozen Fountain

iceandsky.jpg
Wouldn’t it be nice to see one of these days again, sunny, beautiful blue skies and cold enough to freeze a moving fountain? It’s been so hot and humid and it’s beginning to seem as if fall is never going to come. This is another shot that almost made it to the new website (which I keep hearing is almost complete although I’m beginning to question that) but didn’t make it through the final critique.

The Fountain

I’ve shot this particular fountain before but I decided today to take a different approach. I like the feeling of mystery it gives from the above point-of-view.

Raining Day

VW450.jpg
I’ve always wanted a car driving through a little water and today was a good day to grab that shot. After an assignment that had me drenched and dripping water all in my car I decided to pull over and wait for a car to come through this puddle. I wonder if this would make a good VW ad?

Meet Bianca

kitty.jpg
Meet Bianca, she makes everyone feel like they’re the only person worthy of her affection. More beautiful than Bella, stronger than Bangles and is everything Toro wants to be. The screened-in porch is the only outside she gets to experience and that’s where I grabbed this shot of her.

Clean Feet

feet.jpg
Anyone who knows me at all knows that I love feet, when they have proper hygiene. I had just taking E out of the tub and he was lying on the bed watching TV when I grabbed this shot. Shot at 1/60 f/2.8 with a flash at 1/64 the power.

Traveling

I was talking with friends today over lunch about traveling. One in particular shares a love with me in traveling to New York City. So I went to the archives and pulled this from my last visit to the city in 2004. I sure miss the city.

Window and Ivy

bw_window_and_ivy.jpg
I stumbled across this ivy-hanging window leaning against a brick wall while I was on another assignment for work. It’s one of those orthodox shots that most every photographer gets at one point or another. It’s a barn covered in kudzu, an old abandon gas station with ivy growing all over it or maybe it’s an old railroad car; this one is mine.

Chess Anyone?

Copy of IMG_3725.jpg
Here’s one that made it to the finals in processing images for the new website (which I’m told should be making its debut early next week) but just didn’t finish strong. Once the site’s up let me know if you think this one should replace another and why.

Acupuncture

idao_acu_06.jpg
Today’s assignment, acupuncture – I was elated when this one crossed my desk, hundreds of needles in her back, shadows of each one falling at 45 degrees – I had the whole photo planned out in my head in the first 15 seconds of reading it. I’ll use side lighting, convert it to black and white, it’ll be one of those assignments were I can really get creative. Sometimes things just don’t play out in the order in which we conceive them. She had 7 needles in each foot, 3 in each hand, one in each ear, one on the top of her head and these two in her face. I’m happy with this image but wouldn’t it have truly stood out if it were 100 needles in her face. We work and we learn - I was cultured today in that acupuncture isn’t just about how many needles are used but how and where you use them - she looks at peace doesn’t she.

Broken Bat

drive080806_12.jpg
I shot the Greenville Drive baseball team tonight for work. This was my favorite shot from the assignment for the simple reason that the bat has snapped. I think it would have been a perfect shot if the ball were in the frame.

The Fire and The Spoon

spoonandfire.jpg
I had a lot of complements on The Egg and The Spoon that I did a few days ago so I decided that I might try a series of (fill in the blank) and the spoon. I’m not so sure the fire and the spoon are working all that well but I don’t mind sharing it for you guys. Besides, I have a friend trying to get me to share space in showing some work in the month of December, so it’s good to help me stay creative.

Who am I?

rhiannon.jpg
Normally I wouldn’t post of photograph in this style; I tend to shy away from these close-up face shots unless I’m dealing with a subject that truly requires the approach. But there is something about the over-sized ring on her finger, the perfect nails, the way her nose is pushed to one side, her month covered by her hand and the stare that I just fall in love with when I see it.

The Waybacks

waybacks_hubbub_16_resize.jpg
I had the pleasure of shooting the Waybacks last night at the new hub-bub Showroom. The Waybacks featured Warren Hood, a 23 year-old badass on the fiddle. If you haven’t yet had a chance to check these guys out and you like the high-energy-acoustic scene, I recommend that you give them a listen.

Our Bridge

bridge_resize.jpg
I’ve been driving by this old one-lane bridge for years. It used to be “our bridge” when my daughter was younger. I remember her getting so excited each time we would pass it. I photographed it a few different times in my early career but never really could capture the true beauty of it.
