My Girls

IMG_1253.jpg
10 minutes before bringing my niece back to the airport, her and my daughter asked to have some photos made with each other - this is one from the series that I like best. The shot is right outside where I live and I've been eyeing this brick wall anyway, so I asked them to hop up and this was a pose they just starting playing with.

Boxer

a_277.jpg
While I was working on a cover for Link of boxer Barry Butler I asked him to take a break from modeling and beat this bag around for a few minutes. It amazes me at how soft spoken and generally nice boxers truly are.

In-Store Dinning

wholefoods_10.jpg
I was sent out to Whole Foods to grab an environmental portrait for an article being worked on about in-store dinning – healthy style. I’ve actually sat in this store before and had a slice of pizza and a glass of wine. It’s weird at first, eating in a grocery store, but after two glasses of wine it gets much easier.

Crush Cars

idao_crushcars_21.jpg
This is one of those “I’ll Do Anything Once” series I would have liked to physically do. Assignment: Crush Cars. Justin got to climb aboard this monster machinery, drive it, crush glass, pierce metal doors and then ram what was left of this car into a huge metal car crusher and crush it. I don’t care how old you are, if you are a boy – this equals fun.

What was challenging about the assignment for me and not so fun; was having to shoot in the rain, mud and dodge the all the elements of a typical day in a junkyard.

Nice to see you

rhea_2006-12-24_248.jpg
My niece is in for the holidays and wanted to have some pictures made to take back home with her. We went down the road to a near by park and shot a few hundred. This is one of my favorites.

What, you don't think?

Bored

gville2006.jpg
I shot this awhile back while working on location for something else. I'm itching to get some assignments that allow for more creativity – I'm so bored with what I’ve been doing for the past three weeks or so.

Glass Ball

It's just one of those glass Christmas balls that I couldn't resist photographing.

The Cook

ty.jpg
I had drinks earlier this week with some friends in a restaurant I once worked in. This is the chef, Ty, he was the assistant chef back in my day. I went back to say hi and grabbed this shot of him as I was leaving.

Hot Winter

ethanblog.jpg
70 degrees in December takes all the fun out of Christmas shopping, so E and I decided to just play in the park. This is a shot of him thinking he is older than he really is.

More Art

arthop_16.jpg
This is a shot from an Art Hop in Spartanburg. I was trying to find a way to get a little creative with it – it bothers me that shots like this don’t make the front page of the news paper I work for.

Krispy Kreme

One of Spartanburg's oldest signs. Senator Glenn Reese owns the Krispy Kreme here in Sparkle City.

Old-Broken-Down Greenhouse

greenhouse.jpg
I don’t often shoot these scenes which is exactly why I did today. Photography is nice that way – you can easily move from one subject to another even if your strong points fall this way or that way. I was working on assignment earlier and came across this old-broken-down greenhouse and it reminded me that I don’t really take the opportunity that often to do this style of work.

Latte

liquid_highway_31.jpg
Liquid Highway is a local coffee shop me and a few others around here like to support. I recently talked a coworker into doing a little story on them to further help support them – as you can see, Starbucks built a store about 20 yards away. Now, I cannot tell a lie – I do go to other Starbucks from time to time but I would much rather support the locals.

Lost and Found

best_of_200665.jpg
I've been working on a section at work for the best of 2006 and came across this image I shot over the summer. It's part of a "sweet job" feature we do and this particular person does errands for other people who are to busy to do their own. It’s a personality portrait if you will.

Spartanburg Parade

parade.jpg
I took E to see the Spartanburg Parade tonight in downtown. I contemplated even bringing my camera out because it was cold and he's in a "hold me" stage right now. In the end, I did bring it, took just a few photos and this is one I think you will all enjoy.

Art Anyone?

upstatejpg_byoa_22.jpg
This shot came from an annual art event where anyone can show and sell as long as there is enough room to hang work. This piece isn’t being hung however, it is going home with someone.

I like this shot best out of the 23 or so that were chosen to be turned in, I really enjoy seeing movement in still photography. I also feel it shows more of a moment than a posed shot, although he did see me taking photos of him – this is one out of maybe five.

Happy Holiday's

hs_sosebee_17.jpg
Each week Link does what we call “In Your Space” it centers around people and their homes for the most part and can be a lot of fun to do. This week it was on Christmas lights, I have never seen so many lights in one single yard of any cookie-cutter neighborhood I’ve been in. I’ve also never seen my camera batteries die so fast, 17 degrees outside and 20 second exposures will kill a battery in no time at all.

Lovely Rita

sj_limbaugh_08.jpg
It’s expensive to park in Greenville and you can count on getting a parking ticket if you don’t use a parking garage – which is a good 300 yards from where I work. This is only a problem for me when it rains.

I rode around with Angie today for a Sweet Job profile on, not “Meter Maids” but “Parking Enforcers.” In the first 3 minutes of starting her beat with me she posted 3 tickets.

I was on a bit of an assignment in Franklin Tennessee this morning. I hope I passed the audition.

Brooklyn Bridge

FA9.jpg
I used to photograph with film, maybe not so often anymore but here’s the proof. I’ve been shooting digital since November 2002 – I shot this on vacation January 2001. I woke up to piles and piles of snow – it took forever to get here and it was cold, I mean cold but I wanted my Brooklyn Bridge shot like the best of them. This is shot from the Brooklyn side looking onto Manhattan.

I shot Will Hoge at Ground Zero in Spartanburg last night. This is his drummer Sizzi.

Barber Shop

barbershop_021.jpg
I had an assignment this afternoon at “The Brother’s Barber Shop” and it was amazing. It lived up to everything I could have imagined and more. I’m posting this image because I love the way this guy’s hand dwarfs this little boy’s head.
